| Woody vegetation change, ~1994-01 |
![]() Caption: This image gives a perspective on changes to woody vegetation that occurred since 1994. Areas that are brown had non-woody vegetation cover in both 1994 and 2001. Light green areas had woody vegetation cover, principally forest cover, in both 1994 and 2001. Areas shown as red experienced a loss of woody vegetation, principally forest cover, between 1994 and 2001. Other change classes were also identified but not consistently across Tasmania. Analysis with other information such as land tenure and TASVEG can explain more about the changes that have occurred and this information is presented in more detail in the land cover indicator. Of interest are areas that have had relative stability in land cover over the period (such as the South-West National Park) as well as those areas where significant land cover change is occurring. The limitations of this change analysis are discussed in more detail in the land cover indicator. For example, the second set of images were taken when the Landsat satellite passed over Tasmania in 2000 and 2001 and under-reports new plantations established post RFA. Notes: Individual Landsat TM images cover only part of Tasmania. As a result, complete coverage of the state is composed of between 5 - 7 images captured at different dates. To minimise cloud cover interference, images dated up to 2 years apart may be required to provide coverage of an area for a given time. Source: Landsat 5 and 7 data, images captured 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1999, 2000 and 2001, image processing by Ross Lincolne, Space Images Hobart |
