Platypus

Platypus

Notes: The platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) and water rats (Hydromys spp.) are Tasmania's only native aquatic mammals. Platypus are under pressure due to habitat loss and, in the north of the State, were dying from a fungal disease (reported in Case Study 13 in the previous SoE Report).

This photograph is a mosaic taken by digitally overlaying the image of a platypus with a natural background.
