The number of seizures per passenger as a percentage. Seizures include for example fruit, vegetables, insects, horticultural plants etc.

Why is it indicative

Both the clean, green market advantage of Tasmania's produce and its unique biodiversity rely on introduced pests and diseases being kept out of Tasmania.

Through the following efforts Tasmania's agriculture, fisheries, forestry, horticulture industries are protected, as is its unique and special plants and animals:

  • quarantine barrier programs;

  • community and private industry awareness campaigns;

  • maintenance of human resources on the ground;

  • increasing collation of quarantine statistics; and

  • a range of pest management, disease and control response programs.

The increase or decrease in the percentage of the number of seizures per passenger from year to year is reflective of the effectiveness of quarantine management and control measures.
