Objective

To ensure that Tasmanians are not exposed to unacceptable levels of atmospheric pollutants in the home and the workplace.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the State Government adopts the proposed Workplace Health and Safety Regulations to give effect to the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission Exposure Standard for Atmospheric Contaminants.

Key issues

This information is available from Volume 2 of the last SoE Report (SDAC 1997), which can be downloaded. The final objective, final recommendation, and a summary of key management actions are detailed below.

Actions taken

The adoption of the Workplace Health and Safety Regulations in 1998 indicates there has been some progress made in addressing this recommendation on atmospheric contaminants exposure standards since the previous SoE Report (1997). However, it is unclear as to how well the Regulations address issues of atmospheric contaminants.
