Recommendation

It is recommended that the State of the Environment Unit promulgates an action plan to enhance community understanding of the principles and recommendations of this State of the Environment report.

This information is available from Volume 2 of the last SoE Report (SDAC 1997), which can be downloaded. The final objective, final recommendation, and a summary of key management actions are detailed below.

Actions taken

Principal actions taken were the development of a curriculum guide by the SoE Unit for schools on using state of the environment information in the classroom (downloadable file). A CD-ROM version of the previous SoE Report was also produced and this was circulated to major educational organisations. It is anticipated that the web-based second SoE Report will be of value in providing more current information for a range of users. The development of the web based 2003 SoE Report also responds to the intent of the 1997 recommendation in providing a variety of means to improve access to the environmental and natural resource information contained in the SoE Report. The recommendation on Monitoring, Information and Reporting outlines suggested actions for 2003.
