To further the objectives of the Resource Management and Planning System concerning public participation in, and the sharing of responsibility for, resource management and planning.

Recommendation

It is recommended that all the data sets on Land Information System Tasmania (LIST) be available to the general community at reasonable cost.

This information is available from Volume 2 of the last SoE Report (SDAC 1997), which can be downloaded. The final objective, final recommendation, and a summary of key management actions are detailed below.

Actions taken

This recommendation recognised the importance of LIST data in environmental and natural resource management and the role of the LIST web site in public access to information. This information will continue to be made available by the Information and Land Services (ILS) Division of DPIWE through a range of different mechanisms depending on the specific needs of users. For example, digital data supplied by the ILS has been used widely in the preparation of this SoE Report. The pricing policy of ILS is that data for environmental and natural resource management purposes for non-commercial organisations are priced at transfer cost only. While the LIST will continue to provide and maintain the core land information related data for the State, there is unlikely to be a single solution to the distribution of environmental and natural resource data using the LIST.
