Objective

To ensure that a consistent approach is taken to residential development across the State in accordance with best practice planning principles.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the principles of the Tasmanian Code for Residential Development (TASCORD) be included as a priority schedule as part of the implementation of the Model Planning Scheme.

Key issues

This information is available from Volume 2 of the last SoE Report (SDAC 1997), which can be downloaded. The final objective, final recommendation, and a summary of key management actions are detailed below.

Actions taken

Since the previous SoE Report (1997) the Model Framework for Planning Schemes has been superseded by the Simplifying Planning Schemes project (2000). This project involves the preparation of a planning scheme template containing common key elements. Planning Directive No. 1 requires all new planning schemes to be based on this template.

A residential schedule to implement relevant parts of TASCORD is being considered in Phase 2 of the Simplifying Planning Schemes project. This will control form and siting of new residential development, but not location in a regional context.
