| Recommendation 3: Resource Management and Planning System | Index of 1997 recommendations |
|
To support the Government's policy to build sustainable development principles into key resource management legislation. It is recommended that the Department of Environment and Land Management develops performance measures for the Resource Management and Planning System and that authorities responsible for the administration of natural resource management legislation develop performance measures specific to their legislation. Performance reporting on the individual pieces of legislation should form part of the relevant authority's annual report. This information is available from Volume 2 of the last SoE Report (SDAC 1997), which can be downloaded. The final objective, final recommendation, and a summary of key management actions are detailed below. A number of actions have occurred which have established a commitment to management performance measures at a number of levels. In particular, this includes the goals, standards, benchmarks and indicators established by Tasmania Together. This SoE Report also reports against agreed national indicators including the ANZECC Core Environmental Indicators (ANZECC 2000). Accordingly, the Commission does not consider it warranted to carry forward this recommendation to 2002 given initiatives now in place. |
