Objective

To ensure that industry is sited on land best suited to that purpose.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the Department of Environment and Land Management prepares an industrial estate catalogue which identifies current and potential industrial areas in the State and describes their environmental constraints and capabilities for particular industry types.

Key issues

This information is available from Volume 2 of the last SoE Report (SDAC 1997), which can be downloaded. The final objective, final recommendation, and a summary of key management actions are detailed below.

Actions taken

An industrial estate catalogue was prepared through DPIWE. However, generic industrial estate catalogues may not have sufficient relevant information to meet the specific needs of particular industry sectors. Promoting industry growth in areas that are well-serviced by available infrastructure and maximise land capability is a key goal. However, this is being approached through industry-by-industry specific responses rather than generic industrial estate catalogues. Further information on approaches is available through the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment.
